So we crossed the globe in search of our next nomadic headquarters.<\/p>\n
We set foot in South America psyched up and convinced we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d find the one<\/em> \u00e2\u20ac\u201d that one town that would feel like home. The one boasting everything a digital nomad could ever dream of:<\/p>\n Fast internet<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Affordable cost of living<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Moderate climate<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Easy visa policies<\/p>\n<\/li>\n A welcoming, friendly vibe<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Natural surroundings<\/p>\n<\/li>\n And, of course, a variety of great eats<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Talk about high standards…<\/p>\n Once in South America, we couldn’t help but constantly compare every potential living spot to our old (and, let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s be honest, romanticized) life in Bali. We didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t realize it at the time, but the truth was staring us in the face: Now, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get me wrong \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Ecuador and Colombia are absolutely stunning. It felt like we were going through a breakup \u00e2\u20ac\u201d still hung up on our ex-love. Do you push forward and find a new love, or do you go back to the one you never really got over?<\/strong><\/p>\n In any other situation, I would have said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153push forward.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Hands down. Bali was still in our heads, still in our hearts. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s why \u00e2\u20ac\u201d after months of searching \u00e2\u20ac\u201d we decided to move back to Ubud. Everywhere we looked, there was something<\/em> not quite right: too cold, too urban, too expensive, too loud, too remote – Too much this, not enough that.<\/p>\n
We weren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t just looking for a new home \u00e2\u20ac\u201d we were looking for a second Bali<\/strong>.
More precisely, we were chasing another Ubud<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/a>
They boast mind-blowing natural diversity, incredibly friendly people, endless sunshine, good vibes, top-notch food, great internet, and amazing activities.
Still, no matter where we went, something didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t click. I usually find a great deal of places I’d love to live in during my travels. What was going on?
There was nothing wrong with these places.
They just…weren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t Ubud.<\/p>\n<\/a>
Still thinking about her.
\nEvery new place we visited, we compared to her.
Everywhere, we secretly wished we were still with her.
The big question inevitably arose:<\/p>\n
But this wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t any other situation.
We didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t leave Bali because we were tired of the island.
We left for practical reasons.
You could say…we never really broke up.<\/p>\n
We weren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t done with her.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/a>
Back to our old life… with a brand new addition.<\/p>\n
Our situation, our goals, and our expectations have evolved.
But somehow, it feels like we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve landed exactly where we need to be.<\/p>\n
Is this it?<\/strong>
Has Bali set the bar so high that no other place will ever measure up?
